Daniel Kwan was born on September 24, 1987 in Westborough, Massachusetts.
Kwan attended Ryerson University in Toronto, where he studied film. It was during his time at Ryerson that he met his future collaborator, Daniel Scheinert. The two went on to form a creative partnership and began making films together.
In 2010, Kwan and Scheinert created the short film “Interesting Ball”, which was a viral hit on the internet. The film featured a man bouncing a ball on different surfaces and was praised for its creative use of sound and visuals.
Kwan and Scheinert continued to collaborate on many projects, including music videos for artists such as DJ Snake and The Shins. They gained further recognition for their work on the music video for “Turn Down for What” by DJ Snake and Lil Jon, which won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Direction in 2014.
In 2016, Kwan and Scheinert wrote and directed their first feature film, “Swiss Army Man”. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as a corpse that washes up on shore and is befriended by a man, played by Paul Dano. In 2022, Daniels signed a first-look TV deal with A24 and a five-year film deal with Universal Pictures.
