Freddie Gibbs Biography:
Freddie Gibbs was born on June 14, 1982, in Gary, Indiana, where he grew up with both his mother and father on the east side of the city.
He faced many dangers in his local streets and listened to rap music to avoid bad influences. Gibbs spent his high school years rapping with friends and developing his skills, but he also excelled in basketball and football.
Freddie received a full-ride scholarship to play football at Ball State University but was later expelled from college. At the age of 19, Freddie joined a pre-training program for the U.S. Army and received a dishonorable discharge after only eight months.
Freddie began working at the local mall, where he met producer “Finger Roll,” who allowed him to join his “No Tamin Entertainment Group” after hearing his freestyle. Freddie Gibbs released his first solo mixtape, “Full Metal Jackit,” in 2004 under Interscope Records.
In May 2013, Freddie revealed that his first album, ESGN (Evil Seeds Grow Naturally), would be released on July 9, 2013, under his self-created record label. Unfortunately, the album was leaked on June 20, three weeks before the intended release date.
Despite this setback, Gibbs gained a significant following in the hip-hop community following the release of his first solo mixtape and studio album, allowing him to collaborate with well-known artists and release successful projects.
In particular, his EP with Madlib, Deeper, was well-received by both fans and critics and marked his first project to make it onto the Billboard 100.
