Shimron Hetmyer was born in Cumberland, Guyana, on December 26, 1996. Hetmyer, a left-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler, had only played four games for Guyana after making his first-class debut in April 2014 before leading the West Indies to their first Under-19 World Cup title in Bangladesh in 2015-16. He does, however, bat in the top order for his team.
After a few forgettable innings at the start, destiny gave him a second chance, and this time he was supposed to lead the troops in the under-19 World Cup, and he responded with crucial fifties in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the 2016 edition en route to the award-winning performances.
Hetmyer acquired an amazing delicacy in his batting approach while growing up in Berbice, under the guidance of his elder brother Seon, who was also a good cricketer.
